PEP Walking Pierce

PEP “WALKING” PIERCE WALKING PIERCE vs CONVENTIONAL PIERCE The “Walking” pierce mode is the recommended method of pre-piercing thick material when cutting with plasma and oxyfuel. The “Walking” pierce mode pierces and then cuts the a two geometry lead-in before stopping. After the pre-piercing is done the machine returns to the end of the line, does an edge start and cuts the lead-in segment. This method of pre-piercing saves time and consumables. CONVENTIONAL PRE-PIERCING  The pierce time is longer because the CONE deflects the heat requiring more time to re-melt the metal.  The slag is blown back into the consumables. WALKING PIERCE  The vertical edge at the end of the line dramatically reduces the re-melting time.  The slag is not blown back into torch and consumables.  Breaks up lead-in and uses different feed rates for different parts of lead in.  Both line-arc and line-line lead-ins can be used.  Can be used for internal and external pierces when there is room in the cutout for the lead-in.  Some setting changes may be needed on the machine control. After the WALKING PIERCE parameters are set in the material database ONE TIME… IT’S AUTOMATIC!
